I have a few questions for those of you in the area who read my blog. I'm looking for a few leads or recommendations for the following:
- A source of local, pastured: beef , bison, whole chickens, maybe even venison or other fowl.
- A good -yet not terribly expensive- family photographer. Not for photographs in a studio. More of the outdoors walking-as-a-family-down-a-tree-covered-path variety. Emphasis on the not too expensive bit. Really, I just want a picture of all five of us together. That's in focus. I promised my mom one for Christmas (hi, mom!) and it's now almost April...
- Someone with raspberry shoots and/or strawberry creepers to give away this spring.
- Anyone who might want to buy an alto saxophone.
Also, could you leave a comment and let me know if this is really spring. Is it here for good? To stay? Living in the prairies, I grew up never being able to trust spring thanks to the very real possibility of snow in May and the constant threat of frost into June.
So am I free to start planning my garden? What's a normal Ottawa spring?
A normal Ottawa spring is rainy! Very much like today!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I can't answer your questions, Amy. I will ask around for a good photographer, and see what my friends say. What a good idea, though!
I can't answer most of your questions either, but you might try selling your sax on Used Ottawa (www.usedottawa.com). I've had a lot of success there.
ReplyDeleteThis is totally Spring!! I do not remember snow in May in Ottawa, but never say never. I don't plant my garden until closer to the May long weekend, but if it is really hot in early may you can get away with more.
ReplyDeleteLynn has it right for used Ottawa, it is pretty good.
I'll email you about a photographer.
Hi Amy!
ReplyDeleteI know a good photographer...no two! The first one, Esther Campeau, but I think she is expensive. But she is really good! You can go on her web site http://www.esthercampeau.com/ and see a couple of her shoots. And the other one is good to, he is the boy friend of Pat's cousin his name is Simon cousineau and his website is http://www.photocreasim.smugmug.com
And for your sax...I'll go with used ottawa too!
I'd love to know some local meat resources too! That's tricky, but when the farmer's markets start to open, you may have some luck. There is one at Landsdowne every Sunday, the Ottawa Farmers' Market http://www.ottawafarmersmarket.ca/ and I there's an organic farmers market too http://www.oofmarket.ca/ If you go to those websites, they have a list of vendors and some are meat places (with websites)
ReplyDeleteoh, spring in Ottawa, how you have no rhyme or reason...
Yeah.. I was hoping spring was here to stay... and it is currently blizzarding outside. I guess that's how Manitoba works... you'd think I'd be used to it by now, having lived here my whole life.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on those answers! I'm sorry I can't help you... :(
I was just going through some old bookmarks and I found this one:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.freerangemeat.ca/index.htm
It's for a place in Uxbridge (not too far away) that delivers free range meat of all types. It's pricey, though...
Here's a wonderful photographer in Ottawa, and she is fantastic and too reasonable in price! Here's her website: www.photoswithsarah.com
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Bonne chance!
