Gatineau Ottawa Newborn Photographer {baby Massimo}

Chantal, a friend of a friend, saw my pictures online (thank you Facebook) and contacted me about setting up a newborn session once her newest little guy was born. Little Massimo was welcomed into the world by his parents, big brother Antonio, and twin brothers Angelo and Tomasso (guess what? they're Italian!).

Soooo cute! And amazingly alert for only 10 days old!

I love the splayed out toes! Don't you just want to stick his whole foot in your mouth??
MY FAVOURITE SHOT OF THE DAY.

Never in my life have I met such a young baby who was so alert. In the three hours I was there, he slept for maaaaybe 30 minutes. Not only that, but he was STRONG, easily using his legs to push himself out of almost every position we tried to put him in. At ten days old!

Massimo, daddy's gonna LOVE watching you steamroll opponents on the football field! Hopefully by then he'll have forgotten the fact that you puked, pooped, and peed on him (twice) in the span of 15 minutes. The trifecta of baby bodily fluids! You're already a champ!

Thank you Chantal and Gio for inviting me into your home and giving me the opportunity to document this moment of your lives. We'll have to do another family shoot in the spring.

gatineau ottawa newborn photography {baby Joey}

Earlier this month I was able to photograph some friends with their new baby. This is one of the families in the kissing picture, taken while baby Joey was still cookin'. One of the nicest things about this photography venture has been the opportunity to photograph so many of our friends here in Gatineau. Luckily we have some good looking friends! *wink*

It was difficult impossible for me to narrow these down to just a few images, since I know and love these people. So you all get to see A BUNCH.

These two make BEAUTIFUL children together! My Simon is buddies with the little guy in front.

Awww, I love you guys!

Is it cruel of me to like taking pictures of pouty/crying babies? They're always some of my favourites.

And, again, here's a little slideshow of some of my favourite images. If you're reading in a reader, you might have to click through to see it. Only 30 seconds long and TOTALLY worth it (in my not-so-unbiased opinion).

Can I ask what you think of these videos? I haven't bothered to pay for a full subscription (which would let me make videos longer than 30 secs and also have access to some other design/editing options). It's only $30/year, but I'm thinking I should maybe wait until I have more clients booked to see if it's something they'd even want. Would you want a video slideshow of images from a photo shoot, or would you rather make one yourself? I'd love your feedback.

(Also, if you have a few minutes to spare, would you mind heading over to my sister's blog, Life with the Dead List, to congratulate her on finishing her last final... on her way to becoming a funeral director. (I know. Weird.) Actually, maybe we should save our congrats UNTIL WE KNOW IF SHE PASSED.)

gatineau ottawa newborn photography {baby Romeo}

Just wait til you see how cute this little fellow is! And get a load of his name... Romeo L'Amour. As in Romeo Love. These french Canadians are CRAZY! But we love them.

This little sweet heart is the fourth child of some friends from church. After dropping their older kids off at school/daycare, they stopped over for a makeshift photo shoot in my less-than-ideal living room. The lighting made me cringe (bright, BRIGHT, sunshine streaming in through the window instead of the soft cloud cover I've come to expect), but we made it work.

Here are some of my favourite images, with a little slideshow at the end... that I hope works.

gatineau ottawa newborn photography {baby D}

Anybody want to see a CUUUUTE baby?? Introducing baby D, the newest addition to the Two Hands Full family. After meeting Chantal once or twice at blogger meet ups this summer, connecting through each other's blogs, and chatting on Twitter (she's @twohandsfull), I decided to put my camera and my hopefully-improving-photography skills to good use and offer her a portrait session.

Now when D's asleep, HE. IS. ASLEEP. However when awake, he was interested in nursing and only nursing. The images of Chantal breastfeeding D are some of my favourites, knowing how hard she's fought to be able to exclusively breastfeed this new babe. He's one lucky boy to have such a strong, determined mama.

What a beautiful bunch of boys, eh?

Most of these pictures were taken while all five other boys (her two and my three, ages 8, 6, 4, 3, 1) were playing together marvellously in the basement. Simon couldn't remember the name of M, the little guy on the right, so repeatedly asked about "my friend" the rest of the evening.

Newborn portraits are definitely a exercise in patience. Moving and posing them carefully, waiting for them to fall (back) asleep, nursing breaks, diaper changes... it all adds to the unpredictable nature of these types of shoots. And even though I've had my share of practice holding newborns (Hello! I've had FOUR!), I'm still a bit unsure when it comes to posing and photographing them. Although with two shoots in the last week and another hopefully this Friday, I'm getting lots of practice.

Oh, before I forget (again), one of my Ottawa-area readers sent me an email back in early December (I think) asking about a newborn session, and I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME find the email. A Christine or Kristin or something I think?? If that was you, my sincerest apologies! If you can forgive me and are still interested, send me another email and we'll work something out.

i heart faces (week 3) - We Are Family!

The theme this week at i heart faces is "We Are Family!". I figured that this image, taken yesterday, of this newly-added-to family would fit the bill nicely. I love how lovingly attentive the parents (friends of ours) are in this picture, because that's exactly how they are in real life.

(Baby was yawning, not crying. Sweet, sleepy boy.)
